The Lady Behind the Lens

As a business owner, I’ve learned that relationships are key and trust is fundamental to developing the kinds of interactions I want with my clients.  I took a good look at my ABOUT page last week, and realized that although there was plenty of information about WHY I do what I do, there wasn’t really anything of substance about WHO I am or what it’s like to know me as a person (because of course we are more than the services with offer our clients – photographers are people, too!)  !  I was thus inspired to create an entirely new ABOUT ME page, and I’m so excited to share it with you!  You can explore that page here, but first I have a bit more to say!

519 Photography Get to know me

*The above image is of my bedside table in the late afternoon sunshine during my recent trip to Lummi Island, WA.  Yes, that is a Nikon DSLR, a glass of wine, and an empty coffee cup.  🙂

I started this blog because there are so many aspects of my job as a photographer that don’t necessarily go straight into my lookbooks but that I want to share because I had so much fun creating them or the clients were so very fabulous that I had to show the world!   It’s important to me that I can connect my work as a photographer to people’s real lives.  I firmly believe that EVERYONE has the right to exist in photographs and that everyone has an interesting story, a beautiful, personal aspect of themselves that reveals their soul.  It is my goal to bring this out in ALL of my clients.

By blogging, I get to share my own journey with YOU as I capture these stories as best I can, run a business, and, in my spare time, go on as many adventures as possible!

My blog is for my clients, my blog is for people interested in my work, my blog is for people looking for inspiration, and also, my blog is for me.  This is a real-time look at what I’m producing and how my work is impacting others.

As scary as it may be sometimes to put myself and my work out there by blogging, I know that it is good to have a constant testament and reminder for why I do what you do, and if I’m really the person, business owner, and photographer I say I am.

You, my readers, are also here to hold me accountable, too.   And I like that!  I always welcome your input.

Something that has been taking up a good deal of time lately is a little labor of love I began back in the summertime.  When I realized October was around the corner, I cannot lie to you – I felt a funk coming on – the impending Minnesota winter can take the wind out of your sails if you let it.  I decided that this year I would take a stand and work to embrace the Fall and all it brings – specifically a wonderful time for reflection, time to take a breath, and then make a conscious decision to be energetic, positive, and EXCITED about the potential of a brand new season.

That means, dear reader, that #thebeautifulseries is back for the entire month of October.  Every day this entire month you will see a quote paired with one of my images, with a little note from me to keep your chin up, stay positive, and how to frame your mind for living a beautiful life!   The best part is that it is ALL HAPPENING ON INSTAGRAM.  Yes.  An INSTAGRAM exclusive!

**Ok, that’s the ONLY one I’m posting anywhere other than Instagram for now 🙂  You’ll have to follow along on Instagram to get the daily dose and #getbeautiful 🙂

I want as many people as possible to get inspired this Fall – if #thebeautifulseries can help or motivate you or a friend in any way, I’ve reached my goal.  I hope you’ll check out my project by checking out my Instagram feed, and share the posts you love with the people you love who you feel might need a boost.  I believe that we’re all here to help each other, after all – meaningful interactions is where the richness of life comes from (and ALSO what makes me an experiential photographer, but that’s another story)!

I hope my blog can provide you with the knowledge you need about how I run my business and how I live my life.  It is important to me that my business reflects my personality and my personal philosophies!

    • 519photo - Alex, thank you so much for stopping by! I am so glad The Beautiful Series resonated with you. The wine glass/coffee mug scenario was not planned at all, actually! I happened to set the camera and two glasses there over the course of the day, and then realized how funny they looked all together and how descriptive they were of what I was up to that particular day (not to mention the lighting was nice a dramatic) so I captured it with my iphone! Again, THANK YOU!ReplyCancel

    • 519photo - Tanya,
A camera is a camera! 🙂 I actually used a Cannon back in the day – I only switched to Nikon because I liked where the buttons where better than on the Cannon I was using. THANK YOU for sending that warmth – believe it or not, we actually had a glorious sunny day today in MN – a very welcome respite from the cold and dreary grey ones we’ve had the last several weeks. I’ll attribute that to you 🙂ReplyCancel
